Update (Nov 6, 2020)
Added Te-Nehisi Coates Black Panther, issues 1-4. Not for public use.__
(I'm putting these texts/films here because this page seems to have become a download site by default, and it makes organizing the material on my server easier.)
For information about these materials, please see relevant/related announcements, etc. If you are not part of IMS228B, please do not access this material: It is not intended for you. Thanks.
Beyoncé's Black is King (2020)
Black Panther (2018)
Time Bandits (1981)
NB: You can download these or stream them via most media players (VLC is always a good choice, for example). Note that they are each over 1GB in size, and are formatted as MKV files. Please do not share these with others: They are offered here in the spirit of Fair Use.
Make your choice: At the bottom of the map, there are a number of "Things to See," but on the left of the map, there are "Directions to Movie Homes." Charlie Chaplin, Fred Astaire, and others! George Burns! Gracie Allen.
On the map, you'll find the legend "Movie Stars' Homes Drive Starts 1.7 miles West of here." Take that point as the lawn in front of your home or dorm, or apartment. From there, follow the directions, shared on the left-hand side of the map, to find The Homes of the Stars.
Obviously, the map and your neighborhood don't line up. But what comes of this creative misreading of maps? How do you engage differently with the world?
Please record your experiences as you progress through as much of the tour as you can. I'm giving you time from class for this, so please spend at least 80 minutes (!) on this activity. And make notes as you go: Reflecting not only on what you're seeing, but the experience of this misreading.
